Cellar 47 opened in 1977 by a young man named Angelo Grasso who had a dream to open an Italian restaurant. A sugar cane cutter from Ingham & fruit picker with no experience of hospitality, he taught himself about food and how to provide customers with a great dining experience. In 1981, Angelo married his wife Franca and she also begun her journey into the business.  

The original location was at 47 High Street downstairs in a cellar.  Thus, the iconic name Cellar 47 was created. In 1995, Angelo decided to move the business to a larger site, where today he continues to host memorable occasions.

As time has progressed, and the business has evolved, although Angelo & Franca are still very present in the restaurant today, two of their children Bianca & John now manage the operations of the business.

With 46 years of experience Angelo, Franca, Bianca, John with head chef John Romano and the Cellar 47 team continue to provide exceptional meals and service in the heart of Shepparton’s CBD.
